The Story
Cooking that carries culture forward.

Growing up in the UAE as a second-generation Jamaican, finding the ingredients that made our food ours wasn't always easy. But scarcity taught us something. It taught us to be creative. My family mixed our own spices, built our own marinades, and found ways to keep our flavours alive with whatever we had. That resilience never left me.
When I transitioned to plant-based cooking, I brought that same spirit with me. Not rigidity. Not rules. Just curiosity, and a deep respect for the food that shaped me.
This kitchen is the result of that journey. The recipes here are rooted in the Caribbean, and shaped by the people and places that have found their way into my life along the way.
So much of Caribbean food, and the diaspora traditions connected to it, was built through survival. Dishes passed down not with recipes, but with instinct and memory. That wisdom is extraordinary. But as our lives have changed, less physical labour, more sedentary rhythms, our relationship with what we eat needs to evolve too.
Health disparities in Afro-Caribbean communities are real. And part of closing that gap is simply knowing. Understanding what's on your plate, what it does for your body, and how the food your grandmother made can still nourish you today, adapted for the life you're actually living.
Jensplantbase Kitchen exists to bridge that gap. To honour the culture, illuminate the nutrition, and make plant-based cooking feel like coming home, not starting over.
